In the year of the Lord 1998
A snowy December the moon was late
I had to get downtown where the light of the Lord’s
Shines in pink and green neon like an old school Ford
It struck me kinda funny seein side by side
The tall church steeple and the five and dime
And then my thoughts got my smile turned into a frown
Thinkin how bad we need our Lords in our little towns
And it shines on
The Lord’s Light I see it
It was 10:27 on the town hall clock
My fists in my pockets and my jaw was locked
I couldn’t feel nothin but Christmas sadness
Watchin fools wait in line for the midnight madness
Icy breath clouds make a sickening glow
A neon fog rises from the cash n go
And right when I’m about to slip into despair
An angel chorus rises and it splits the air
As it shines on
The Lord’s Light I see it
And the McCarollers sing
Shine On
Well that music chased away my stormy weather
My Christmas burden it turned light like feather
So if every lame chump wants to take a pass
At makin midnight madness into midnight mass
I say snub the big sign saying 'sales on gifts'
There are angels around and they can give you a lift
And if someone dares to give me a scented candle
I’ll remember the voices, I’ll be able to handle
As it shines on
The Lord’s Light I see it
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
Amen
